Joe thanks the homeowner and leaves through the front door. The tools are packed. This was the hardest job of the day. It's 5:30 and the office just called. Mrs. Smith has an emergency - her fireplace is smoking - and they want him to help her. Last year Mrs. Smith hired the $30 sweep because she didn't want to pay for Joe's expertise. Now the $30 sweep is out of business. Big surprise. How do you think Joe will handle this situation? After all, Mrs. Smith hung up on him last year when she was quoted $195 for a cleaning and inspection.

Handling situations with grace and patience isn't always easy. Especially when it's busy enough to pick and choose your jobs. And, it's at the end of a very long day. With a challenging customer. What would you do?

By helping Mrs. Smith and solving her problem, Joe will be doing a good turn and promoting his company. In fact, he has just become the solution to the problem. Do you think Mrs. Smith is going to talk about this? YOU BET! Joe will be the hero that can solve all her problems.

Creosote Busters for Chimney Sweeps - Mechanical Tools

November 23, 2010 0 Comments Bloggies by admin

Since Lindemann Chimney Supply has a sister chimney sweeping company in Chicago (Lindemann Chimney Service) we are out there every day cleaning and repairing chimneys. We know that sometimes cleaning chemicals don't work and that it takes something extreme measures to remove glazed creosote from the flue.

But let's start with the fireplace smoke chamber. We have rotary products that make quick work of creosote removal in the smoke chamber. We carry two light-duty rotary cleaning brushes for smoke chambers. This power sweeping brush flares out as it starts to spin, wiping creosote out of the smoke chamber. It reaches into corners, cracks and irregular surfaces doing a great job. Designed for use with the 2' ButtonFlex Rods or ButtonLok Enforcer Steel Rods.

Stinger Whip Set & Super Scrub Power Sweeping Whip

If you need a cleaning tool for moderate third degree build-up, this Stinger Whip Set with ButtonLok rod fitting makes removal quick. Eighteen line tips get into corners of flues up to 12" X 12". You may shorten the line for smaller flues. A ½" drill with clutch is recommended. Use with ButtonLok Black Poly Rods or ButtonLok Enforcer Steel Rods and drill adapter. Keep some Stinger Replacement Whip Line on your truck for quick repairs.

The Super Scrub Power Sweeping Whip cleans chimneys gently, yet effectively. The Shark Tooth Whip Line is .155" and includes 11 powerful strands. The Super Scrub may also be strung with lighter weight string trimmer line for lightweight liner or wire rope for deglazing. It passes through dampers and the adjustable strands expand back out to clean soot and flaky creosote. Includes guide ball on the end to help negotiate offsets. Use with ButtonLok black poly rods or ButtonLok Enforcer Steel Rods. To see a video on the Super Scrub, click here.

The ProFlex Wizard spins, removing thin layers of glazed creosote up to 1/4". It attaches to ProFlex or Large Universal Thread poly rods. Be sure to use a 1/2" heavy-duty hammer drill with a clutch. Replacement loop assemblies are also available. The 14" loop works for 8" - 10" diameter flues, 6" X 6" square, and 6" X 10" up to 7" X 11" rectangle flues. The 24" loop assembly works with 11" - 20" diameter flues, 10" X 10" square and 8" X 12" up to 12" X 16" rectangle flues.

Use the Small Chain Whip Set when removing heavy glazed creosote. This Small Whip cleans flues up to 8" X 8". Use the Large Chain Whip Set when removing heavy glazed creosote on flues up to 12" X 12". Both include a hub base and rugged chain. Use with ButtonLok Enforcer Steel Rods and drill adapter. Thankful - by Rob Lindemann

November 23, 2010 0 Comments Bloggies by admin

Thanks to all our loyal customers. Without you we do not exist. We are thankful for your business as well as your friendship.

Thanksgiving is a great time to stop and thank someone for what they do or who they are. Earlier this year our Illinois office had a special day for the office staff at Lindemann Chimney. We did a couple simple things to say Thank You to those who make a difference in our front office. Here is a response from a gal we appreciate so much we jokingly refer to her as the "Employee of the Year".

"There were few very, very happy days in my adult life…

The day when I came to this beautiful country, day I got married, days my sons were born, 2 years ago, when doctors save my husband’s life,

last Sat. when again my husband’s heart surgery was a success, and TODAY!!!!

THANK YOU ALL FOR MAKING ME CRY TEARS OF JOY AND ALL THE NICE THINGS YOU SAID AND DID.

LOVE,

EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR."

Sometimes a Thank You goes a longer way than you could imagine.

Creosote Busters for Chimney Sweeps - Chemicals

November 17, 2010 0 Comments Bloggies by admin

(Chimney Product News)

At Lindeman Chimney Supply we carry a variety of products to make your chimney cleaning job easier. Lets face it. Every chimney is just a little bit different. And homeowners burning habits can vary from house to house. So what may work for one customer may not be adequate for the guy down the street.

If the chimney cleans up well but you want to provide your customer with a maintenance product to make sweeping even easier then we have three products available to you.

Stage One is a powder that the homeowner spreads around the logs and in the firebox. It's a catalyst that when combined with heat breaks down creosote to make it more brushable. It's great for ongoing maintenance

Stage Two and Anti-Creosote are liquid sprays that can be sprayed in the firebox and on the wood. These chemicals tend to be pretty popular because they are easy to use. They are great maintenance products and can also help make creosote more brushable.

If you are dealing with nasty third-degree creosote then it's important that the homeowner doesn't have a fire. Whether it is heat from the fire or an errant spark, a chimney fire can still ignite with the above products in the flue. Instead, use one of the chemicals or mechanical means, below.

Stage Three is a very strong chemical that should be sprayed into the flue via an applicator. But first, the creosote has to be roughed up so the chemical can get past the first layer. Then the chemical has to sit for a few weeks. Multiple applications may be required.

cre-away-creosote-remover-professional-application

Creaway is a unique fine powder chemical that can be applied two ways. A 1 pound squeeze bottle is available that can be applied from below. It's very important that an updraft is first established to carry the chemical up the flue. For chimney sweeps, a professional applicator is available for those jobs when the chemical needs to be applied heavily to be effective. Creaway is the best solution for that tarry sticky creosote. It can take 1-2 weeks for the chemical to work.

These chemicals don't replace the need for chimney sweeping. In fact, with heavier build-ups mechanical tools are often needed to clean off the third-degree creosote. Our next blog will address some of these heavy-duty cleaning tools.

Skamol Factory-Built Fireplace Replacement Panels

November 10, 2010 0 Comments Bloggies by admin

(Chimney Product News)

Lindemann Chimney Supply carries Skamol factory-built fireplace replacement panels because we know they work. In fact, our sweep company, Lindemann Chimney Service installs Skamol Panels whenever we find damaged prefab fireplace panels. "Skamolex panels give great flexibility for replacing panels in prefab fireplaces. Just cut on the job with a saw or grinder and fit to your specific needs. They are a perfect replacement for panels that can't be found anymore from the manufacturer. I highly recommend them" says Mike Ruehrdanz, Lindemann Service's head sweep in Chicago, IL.

Skamol Panels provide high insulation value and thermal shock resistance. They have been tested and are approved by Omni Labs for installation as a replacement for refractory panels in factory-built fireplaces. These panels measure 1" X 24" X 39 5/8" and can be cut or drilled as needed. Unlike ceramic refractory panels, Skamolex panels can be cut with ordinary wood-working tools and produce little or no dusting. They can be easily drilled, or a router used if a gas line for a gas log lighter or gas log set is desired.

Note: Panels will expand and contract as temperatures inside the fireplace increase or decrease. It is important to incorporate a necessary allotment when installing new panels. Follow the installation instructions when measuring and cutting the panels.

Skamol Panels have been in use in Europe for some time and are free from asbestos. They are tested for asbestos twice; once at the manufacturing plant under strict regulations and once before they are shipped overseas. Because of the unique location that the materials are mined from, you won’t find any panels exactly like the Skamol Panels. Easy to cut, easy to install makes for quicker, cleaner installations that are much easier on your back!

Give Skamol Panels a try today! We are fully stocked and ready to supply you!

Are you taking advantage of free publicity?

November 09, 2010 0 Comments Bloggies by admin

(Business Building)

The Chimney Sweep and Hearth Industries have worked long and hard to create media exposure and customer awareness. The internet is like a gold mine with stories abounding about the need for chimney sweeping, woodstove change-outs, energy tax credits and more.

Back in the eighties and even the nineties it was hard to convince people of the need for chimney sweeping. When people thought of chimney sweeps they thought of Dick VanDyke in Mary Poppins dancing on rooftops. It has taken time to replace that image with one of technical and code expertise.

top-hat

Thankfully, today you can find a lot of credible information on the net. Take advantage if them. If there is a website article from a trusted resource about chimney cleaning, create a hyperlink. Is a TV station doing a story on the need for chimney cleaning? Link to it. You can also link to sites like the Chimney Safety Institute of America and the National Fire Protection Association. However, never just copy the information.

Credibility is easier with today's internet exposure. Lawfully take advantage of good exposure and work very hard to avoid negative exposure. It's like having your own marketing company working to promote what you do.
