What Dilemma?

Remember when you first started your business? You visualized doing it better than everyone else, and of course you were going to make lots of money.

Your main purpose was to find new customers and make sure they would always be your customers. You were probably undercapitalized, wore several hats, put in long days and nights, and didn’t do a whole lot of relaxing. But it was exciting to watch your business grow.

You added people, and put systems in place to create stability. Next thing you knew, you were involved daily in administrative duties. Paperwork kept increasing and what was once an exciting venture became a daily routine with more time spent solving employee problems, putting out fires, paying bills and taxes promptly, and of course keeping a monthly cash flow.

If this sounds familiar you’re not alone. It’s happened to many others the same way. You are frustrated with a high stress level, and working harder/longer hours won’t solve your dilemma. You simply need to spend more time doing the things you do best and delegate others to do the rest.

Don’t think its possible, take a look at the Rolling Stones. Considered by many to be the most prolific and enduring rock and roll band in history. They’ve actually been at it for over forty years. Mick Jagger and his three friends are well into their late-fifties, and are still performing to sold-out crowds around the world. You may not like their music but it’s hard to deny their success.

Did you know that it takes twenty semi-trailers and over two-hundred people to move their 60-yard wide, several stories high stage structure from one location to the next? They also use two private planes to move the band and other key people between cities. Seems like a lot of money but it must be worth it. Because their last world tour in 2002 earned a profit of over $100 million.
On show night their limo pulls up and the Stones go directly back stage. They wait until they get their cue, walk on the stage, pick up their instruments, and for the next two hours they do what they do best. After their last encore their multitudes of fans go home happy and satisfied. Then the Stones get back into a waiting limo and exit the stadium.

After some initial planning, they delegate and never get involved in the hauling of equipment, setting up of the stage, or any of the other hundreds of tasks involved. The Stones concentrate on what they do best – singing and performing.

The message here is to simply identify what you truly do best. Focus most of your time and energy on that and delegate the rest. You will eventually reap large profits.
