Integrity

The Dictionary defines integrity as “adherence to a code of moral, artistic, or other values; the quality or state of being complete or undivided; an unimpaired condition; soundness.”

There is “legitimate power” in practicing personal integrity. Being consistent in one’s dealings with others creates trust and believability. People will be open with you and share more confidential or inside information, enabling you to make better recommendations.
Integrity communicates believability and builds/ creates respect. Whether or not they like you, people will respect you and trust your word. It will also improve communications when you are dealing in a straightforward manner instead of playing with hidden agendas.

Integrity increases your confidence level. You don’t have to look over your shoulder. You won’t be wasting time and energy lying and worrying about getting caught. If you always tell the truth, you don’t have to remember what you said. Integrity also improves your customer's confidence level too. Customers are more likely to buy when they feel confident.

Ever said, “Just because I cheat on my income tax doesn’t mean I would do anything unethical with my customer. That’s different.” Integrity isn’t situational; it’s your personal values. “You reap what you sow.”
You might think it’s okay to bend the rules a little if no one is getting hurt, but you might be hurting someone and that someone might be yourself. Every time you tell a white lie or don’t keep a promise, you chip away at your self-esteem as well as your personal integrity.
Integrity is an internal characteristic. It can’t be manufactured or put on. It isn’t situational – today you have it and tomorrow you don’t. It must be genuine. Integrity is apparent when what you say is consistent with what you do and who you are.

Purchasing products and services has become so complex in recent years that customers need honest, straightforward advice. They don’t have the energy or time to research all the latest technological changes. They need someone they can trust to make a recommendation in their best interests.

With new customers your integrity can be communicated through your reputation, or from a favorable recommendation from a person the new customer respects.

Even if the cost seems high in the short run, feel confident that integrity will always pay off. Not because it’s the right thing to do, but because when your customers trust you, they will buy from you.
